Britain's Kindest Kid 2009

FIVE NEWS with Natasha Kaplinsky and the Charities Aid Foundation have begun the search for “Britain’s Kindest Kid” 2009.

The competition, now in its second year, rewards charitable work by children aged 16 and under. “Britain’s Kindest Kid”, which will be promoted on Natasha’s 5pm show, is looking for children who have done amazing things to support charities, help others and make the world a better place.

Natasha Kaplinsky will present the winner with £1,000 prize money on her show in October. They will also get £1,000 in Charities Aid Foundation vouchers to give to their favourite charities and a behind the scenes tour of FIVE NEWS.

Natasha Kaplinsky launched the competition saying: “Being a mum, I know how important it is to recognise the kindness shown by young people. Britain’s Kindest Kid takes inspirational children who do great work and puts them in the headlines.  If you’re one of those kids, or you know one, then we really want you to enter this competition so we can tell Britain your story.”

A panel of expert judges will agree a shortlist of five candidates whose stories will be told on FIVE NEWS in October. The winner will be announced the following week.

John Low, CEO, Charities Aid Foundation said:  “There are many people out there who care deeply about the life changing work of charities, and there are many vital charities who need their support.  Britain’s Kindest Kid celebrates young people who are an inspiration to many adults with their support for good causes and who persuade many more to get involved and make a difference.”

Last year’s competition was won by Liam Fairhurst, who, despite having cancer himself, had raised over £250,000 for children’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent before his 14th birthday.
