Voluntary Arts Network (VAN)

Following the hugely successful VAN trustees event, 'Inspired, Competent, Creative', held in Birmingham on 30 November 2007, we have launched a new message board area with resources and networking opportunities for voluntary arts trustees and committee members.

Next Meeting

Inspired, competent, creative
Peer-support event for committee members, board members, trustees and CEOs

This informal afternoon event specially created for committee members, board members, trustees and CEOs from the voluntary arts sector offers a unique opportunity for you to explore and solve your governance problems with others undertaking similar roles in the sector. Facilitated by Zöe Willems, it will be a gathering of people and ideas in a warm, friendly space, structured around themes and giving time and space to speak, explore and learn, and to offer feedback and ideas.

When and where?

23 September 2008 - 12.30pm to 5.00pm
The Training Room, Manor Gardens Centre, 6-9 Manor Gardens, London N7 6LA

How much?
Just £18 per session, including refreshments.

Or just £25 for two delegates (e.g. trustee/board/committee member and their CEO), including refreshments.

Topics
Content will be determined through conversations with trustees. This will give you a chance to have your own specific issue addressed as well as to present issues as they come to mind in the session. For example, issues might include:

  • compliance with charity and company regulations;
  • what it means to be a good trustee or an effective chair;
  • co-opted, selected or elected - how dopeople become trustees?;
  • attracting and keeping trustees;
  • eliciting and using the skills, experience and personalities of current trustees;
  • constitutions, strategic plans, good governance;
  • the relationship between trustees and staff;
  • running interesting and inspiring board meetings and writing useful reports.

All topics are subject to change.
