Finding a new trustee is not as straightforward as hiring paid employees usually is. You'll need to determine what skills and experience you're looking to add to the board, look in all the right places for suitable candidates, and devise a process of selecting the right person for the role.
Once you've welcomed a new trustee on board, providing meaningful and useful induction is critical in helping them acclimatise to the role and to understand your organisation. It also is key to making them feel valued and motivating them to play an active part in the team. Some trustees will be entirely new to trusteeship and will need detailed information and support, whilst others may be experienced but still need to learn about your charity and the way in which you work.
The organisations and resources below may be useful in helping you shape a Recruitment and Induction policy or procedures for your organisation. If you come across other helpful tools, we would love to hear about them.
