Thinking of becoming a trustee? What does it involve? What are the legal responsibilities, and also the rewards of the role? Trusteeship is a responsible undertaking, but it also can be immensely satisfying and enable you to use your skills and experience whilst developing new ones.
There are hundreds of thousands of charities, small and large, local and national, which need people to help govern their work. Some will need specialist professional skills or people with high level contacts, but many others urgently need nothing more than commitment, interest, and real life experience. It helps to choose a charity whose cause is close to your heart or perhaps suits your lifestyle (for example, one close to home or at your children?s school). Why not look into it? Talk to a few organisations you would be interested in helping, and find out what they need and what would be involved.
The organisations and resources below may help you to think through the idea of becoming a trustee and give you an idea of the bare bones of the kinds of responsibility you would be taking on. If you find other helpful resources, please drop us an email and let us know.
